Safety

Safety will be addressed at the MANDATORY pre-race meeting held the night before the event.

When planning travel to Sitka, be sure you arrive with time to make a 5PM
meeting the day before the event.

This is event is held in Alaskan waters. The water is cold 🧊. Sometimes, on the day of the event, the air temperature is cold 🥶 too. Wet suits are required unless a participant meets the requirements for swimming without one (see Registration).

The participant’s own skills, conditioning and experience are essential to their safe completion of the race. It is incumbent on all participants to know their limits. If, during the event, you start to doubt your ability to complete the event you must seek assistance immediately because it takes time for a kayaker to respond and more time for a power boater to pull you from the course.

The Race Director/Organizers reserves the right to remove a participant who is deemed not able to complete the course, who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or for unsportsmanlike conduct.

  1. Hello! What’s the best way to go about getting a kayak rental for my escort kayaker? Is that something I can do in advance now?
